Modder SquallyDaBeanz has officially released the first act of Forsaken, a custom campaign for Baldur's Gate 3 entirely set in the World of Warcraft universe that reimagines Tirisfal Glades inside Larian Studios' engine. This ambitious standalone modification steps completely away from the Forgotten Realms to chronicle the early struggles of the Forsaken after breaking free from the Lich King's grasp.

The adventure places players in the boots of a freshly awakened undead who must find their place in the fallen kingdom of Lordaeron alongside other liberated brethren. Built for characters from level 1 to 5, the project operates as an independent journey from Faerûn's primary storyline while retaining the tactical turn-based combat system of the acclaimed role-playing game.

Tirisfal Glades Rebuilt in Tactical Form

The mod faithfully recreates the iconic starting zone of the Horde from Blizzard's classic release. Rather than mimicking the dense level design typical of Larian Studios' campaign, the author aimed for an intermediate scale that captures the vast, open geography of Azeroth without slowing down travel.

Throughout their journey, players will encounter over 20 new quests, fresh dungeons, settlements, and more than 60 handcrafted NPCs and traders. Unlike the branching paths common in the base game, these quests follow a more direct and linear structure inspired by early online quest design. Combat takes center stage with over 30 demanding encounters carefully tuned for experienced tacticians.

To tackle these battles, the mod introduces three companions who can be recruited at the Deathknell Chapel: Darnell (Fighter), Isabella (Sorcerer), and Duesten (Cleric). In this current iteration, these followers serve a functional role to round out a four-person party for combat, can only be revived with revivify scrolls, and lack deep interaction systems. Players and companions can also respec or change classes by speaking with Shadow Priest Sarvis in that same chapel.

Technical Details and Future Roadmap

The campaign incorporates custom items, hidden puzzles, secrets, and class-specific skill checks scattered throughout the wilderness. Although designed as a standalone campaign, it fully supports multiplayer co-op as long as all participating players maintain identical mod installations on PC.

At present, Forsaken is exclusive to PC through community hosting platforms and requires manual placement or a mod manager, ruling out releases on consoles or systems like Mod.io due to technical constraints. For those wishing to transition between worlds, the base game's beach waypoint remains unlocked from the start, permitting cross-region travel if players choose to experiment.

SquallyDaBeanz clarified that full voice acting will not be implemented due to the extensive production scope. However, future patches are already planned to introduce idle animations, expanded dialogue skill checks, equipment adjustments, and additional quests as development progresses on future acts of this remarkable crossover.
