Ubisoft and Team Asobi have confirmed that Rayman Legends Retold will include a free, exclusive Astro Bot skin for players on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. The special outfit will unlock at no additional cost the first time you visit the shop of Victor Velour, the in-game tailor, returning the homage after Rayman made a memorable cameo in Sony's 2024 platformer.
This crossover brings together the creative forces of Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft Montpellier, and Team Asobi. The game is scheduled to launch worldwide on December 3, 2026, offering players a reimagined experience packed with updated visuals, a reinterpreted storyline, a mysterious new realm, brand-new musical levels, and local co-op for up to four players.
The challenge of merging tech with handcrafted art
Designing the costume presented an intricate aesthetic test for the art department. Quentin Chaillet, lead character artist on the project, revealed that translating the sleek, futuristic look of the robot captain into Rayman's traditionally handcrafted and organic art style was one of their toughest tasks.
The team had to integrate smooth white plates, reflective chrome surfaces, and glowing blue accents without compromising the iconic silhouette of the limbless hero. Preserving Rayman's distinct personality meant carefully balancing his large nose, floating hands, floating feet, and oversized shoes so that both design languages could coexist seamlessly.
Meanwhile, Guillaume Arvieu, art and world director for the game, highlighted the shared creative DNA connecting both platforming icons. Arvieu emphasized that both franchises stand out for their sheer gameplay variety, rich biomes, fluid movement systems, and an infectious sense of joy that appeals to players across all age groups.
