Crazy Taxi, Sonic and Stranger Than Heaven are being brought to screen by Netflix in live‑action and animated formats. The first project will be the Crazy Taxi movie, described as a live‑action comedy.
The Crazy Taxi screenplay is written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for the 2025 reboot of *Grab It If You Can*. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara serve as producers, recalling the countless hours spent driving the yellow taxi on Dreamcast.
Sonic will launch a new animated series aimed at an upper pre‑school audience, featuring high energy, humor and a strong emotional core. Developed by Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara, the series also involves the franchise’s regular producers.
Stranger Than Heaven will become a live‑action crime drama. Set in early‑20th‑century Japan, the story follows a foreigner who climbs from poverty to yakuza boss and later entertainment‑industry magnate. Plot specifics remain secret while Toru Nakahara heads production.
Brandon Riegg, VP of Non‑Fiction and Transmedia at Netflix, highlighted the chance to work across three distinct eras of Sega’s catalogue. Sega president and COO Shuji Utsumi expressed pride in Netflix’s commitment to each title. Toru Nakahara urged fans to expect something “tender yet cool” from Sonic, “hilariously wild” from Crazy Taxi and a “brutal action drama” from Stranger Than Heaven.
The adaptations join Netflix’s extensive video‑game lineup, which already features a live‑action *Assassin's Creed* series, a *Gears of War* film, animated projects for *Minecraft*, *Magic: The Gathering* and *Clash of Clans*, a competition series based on *Overcooked*, second seasons of *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners* and *Splinter Cell: Deathwatch*, and the third season of *Devil May Cry*. A *Diablo* animated series was announced at BlizzCon 2026, and talks continue for *Overwatch* and *Warcraft* adaptations.
Sega also announced the upcoming game *Crazy Taxi: World Tour* for 2027, slated for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
