Prime Video has confirmed that Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, an unscripted reality competition series inspired by the management game, will premiere on January 13, 2027, across more than 240 countries and territories featuring a $1 million grand prize.

The official reveal took place during Fallout Day on October 23, where the streaming platform confirmed that the show will kick off with its first four episodes on launch day, followed by weekly releases for the remainder of the season.

A Reality Show Inside Vault-Tec Shelters

The premise of Fallout Shelter: The Experiment translates nuclear survival into an unscripted real-life competition. Everyday participants will test their aptitude for the apocalypse inside bomb-proof shelters designed by the fictional corporation Vault-Tec.

Throughout the season, contestants will undergo head-to-head drills, psychological dilemmas, and morally challenging trials to see who is truly fit to endure life underground when resources dwindle. A brief cinematic teaser set the stage with the tagline "The world is ending. The competition is just beginning." At the end of the trials, the sole "dweller" who emerges victorious from the vault will take home the $1 million prize.

The development of this competition brings together seasoned reality television producers and central creative minds from Bethesda Game Studios. General production is handled by Studio Lambert, the company behind major unscripted hits including The Traitors, The Circle, and Squid Game: The Challenge.

The show is co-produced with Kilter Films, the production banner run by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, creators of Amazon's live-action Fallout TV series. Furthermore, Bethesda Game Studios is attached in association, with Todd Howard and James Altman serving among the executive producers to maintain the signature corporate satire and setting of the franchise.

This unscripted expansion follows the continued presence of the franchise on Prime Video after the release of the live-action series' second season, which secured nine Emmy nominations and now paves the way for reality television inside Vault-Tec's iconic bunkers.
