The video game industry is facing an unprecedented digital extortion scheme. The group responsible for recent leaks of Grand Theft Auto VI, operating under the moniker CyberLeek, has publicly threatened to release a full build of the long-awaited Rockstar Games title online, which allegedly includes the entire playable story mode through to the end credits.

Rather than a simple spontaneous breach, the move is tied to a speculative financial maneuver. According to reporting highlighted by international outlets, the attackers conditioned the leak of this alleged build on their associated memecoin hitting a market capitalization of $30 million. Following widespread social media reports of the warning, the token's market cap surged from an initial $3.8 million up to $5.7 million.

As an alternative condition to stop the file dump, CyberLeek issued an ultimatum directed at the project's parent company: "Take-Two gets one way out: physical disks and a public apology," the group's warning stated. "They can take it at any moment. Or they can gamble that CL is bluffing. Everyone knows which one they'll pick." CyberLeek also extended threats across the broader industry, claiming: "If CyberLeek can reach Rockstar, no one is safe."

This escalation followed an earlier incident where the group published 24 minutes of gameplay, cutscenes, major narrative details, and a first-person camera mode. That footage was shared just one week before Rockstar Games released its extended gameplay teaser on Netflix. At that time, the group had already threatened to release additional video content unless Rockstar abandoned its all-digital launch strategy.

While the true origin and exact content of the build in the group's possession remain unclear, the legal pushback from the publisher has been swift. Take-Two Interactive filed formal subpoenas against Microsoft, Discord, and X to uncover the identities of the alleged infringers and enforce its intellectual property rights.

Court filings revealed takedown notices sent to Discord, stating that the shared material constituted genuine leaked footage from the unreleased title. "The content is presented as genuine leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay from Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., and its distribution constitutes unauthorised reproduction and public disclosure of our Client's copyrighted work," the legal documentation confirmed.

In response to the leaks, the studio expressed profound frustration over the disruption of their creative reveal. Developers noted that this was clearly not how they planned to showcase the game after years of anticipation. "It would be an understatement to say that this has been heartbreaking for our team," stated Rockstar Games. "While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers, we hope that everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19."

As legal proceedings move forward, the broader gaming community continues to monitor Take-Two's response ahead of the anticipated launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
